Shaken but not forsaken - RHEMA Haiti Earthquake Report

“So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” Psalms 46:2 (NLT)

Today, August 14, 2021, another major earthquake (7.2 magnitude) hit the nation of Haiti. Andy & Ruth Joseph, Rhema Haiti administrators and team180 members are with us here in the DR Congo. We’re in constant contact with our leaders on the ground in Haiti and are receiving regular updates.  So far, in spite of significant damage and loss of life in certain regions, our students and graduates are giving us good reports of God’s protection.  One of them told us their home was flattened during the quake but, thankfully, no one was seriously injured.  Though we weep with and pray for the families who have suffered the loss of loved ones, we rejoice for those whose lives are being spared. We will keep you updated as more reports come in!

Thanking God for the leading of the Spirit and divine protection!

“For as many as are led by the Spirit, they are the sons of God,” Romans 8:14

Normally, we would have been in Haiti this week holding the last classes for our students who were scheduled to graduate one week from today on August 21.  Due to the current instability and unrest in the nation, which was further complicated by the recent assassination of the Haiti’s president, we had already made the decision to postpone graduation. We also initiated “code red” of our emergency protocol for this week’s session.  Code red allows students to travel a short distance to one of the 8 regional break-out campuses we’ve established across the nation instead of travelling to the main campus near the capital. There, they are able to pick up packets including SD Cards pre-loaded with the audio/visual materials they need to complete their courses in the safety of their homes.

Today, even as the earth was shaking, the Word of the Lord was going forth and ministry training was continuing throughout the nation. Hundreds of RHEMA students all across the country were completing their courses including Church Planting Essentials.  The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is truly the light of the world. In the long-term, we believe the planting of dynamic, healthy, life-giving churches across the nation offers the the greatest hope for the people of Haiti who have suffered so much for so many years!

We will keep you posted as we learn more and as we continue to seek the Lord as to the best way we can help bring natural relief to those impacted by this disaster. (Especially those that are directly connected to our current students and alumni). We have temporarily established a Haiti relief fund for this purpose! CONGO UPDATE - Getting Ready to launch the first French-speaking RHEMA campus in Africa!

Team180 has been on the ground in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since early June working hard to prepare for the launch of the first French-speaking RHEMA Bible Training College on the continent of Africa. RHEMA Kinshasa will officially open its doors in the Democratic Republic of Congo on September 20, 2021

Preparations are going well but much remains to be done. Excitement is growing for the launch and student applications continue to pour in. We are still believing God for an additional $50,000 to meet the start-up budget. You can click on the link below to be a part of this historic launch! (Choose “RHEMA Kinshasa, RD Congo” from the drop-down menu.) Be watching your inbox for exciting reports that will be coming your way soon!
